Game clients

OpenWoW plays on the classic 1.12.1 client. Grab it below (or use one you already have) and the OpenWoW launcher sets everything else up for you.

Vanilla 1.12.1

World of Warcraft 1.12.1 (build 5875)

Get Classic 1.12.1 (.zip) from the Internet Archive

  1. Extract the zip anywhere, for example C:\Games\WoW-1.12.1.
  2. Check your version: the login screen shows 1.12.1 (5875) in the bottom-left corner, or right-click WoW.exe → Properties → Details.
  3. Install the OpenWoW launcher.
  4. In the launcher, press CHOOSE FOLDER (or the grey PLAY button) and pick the folder with WoW.exe. The launcher checks it's 1.12.1 and remembers it.
  5. Press PLAY. The launcher writes the realmlist for you and backs up the old one.

Setting it by hand instead? Put this line in realmlist.wtf in the game folder: set realmlist (realm address, posted in Discord)

No client handy? You can still try OpenWoW in the browser from the home page, or host your own realm with the server software.
